ZENXIN bananas are known as 40-days bananas or in the local language it is called “Pisang 40 hari”. They are the variety of the banana that is named after for their quick maturation period as they ripe in 40 days instead of 90 days (normal variety ripening period). Originally from Yogyakarta, Indonesia, this variety of banana is said to be difficult to find in markets, due to only a small number of farmers who plant this variety. At ZENXIN the bananas are ripe naturally without any chemical usages in just 40 days. 3 Benefits of Bananas that You Must Know

A medium sized banana contains 110 calories, 28g of carbohydrates, 1g of protein, 0g of fat, 3g of fiber and 450mg of potassium.

Bananas are a rich source of carbohydrates and they are mainly sucrose, fructose and glucose, which provide you a quick source of energy.

Despite having a rich content of carbohydrates, bananas have a relatively low glycemic index, ranging 42 to 58, which helps in control blood sugar by preventing a sudden spike of blood sugar after ingesting, which will further maintain healthy blood sugar level.

Note: Glycemic Index (GI) is a measure of how fast a carbohydrate-rich food is digested and absorbed into the bloodstream and the extent of rising blood sugar level in the body.

One medium banana will support your 10 – 15% of your daily fibre requirement of 20 – 30g.

Especially in those newly ripened bananas, they contain high amounts of resistant starch, a type of starch that does not digest well in your stomach and being a great prebiotic source that supports the growth of healthy beneficial gut bacteria in promoting good digestive health in preventing constipation.

Bananas are high in potassium, a mineral and electrolyte that plays an important role in making your heart to beat regularly in order to support your daily activities. Hence, by incorporating bananas in your meals will help in promoting good heart health and normal blood pressure. At the same time, it would be a great snack choice for pre-workout as potassium would maintain normal function of nerve and muscle cells during your workout routines.

Bananas also contain vitamin B6 and tryptophan that are considered as mood enhancers as these nutrients would help your body to produce serotonin, which is known as a “happy hormone”.

As the bananas ripen, the starch will be converted into sugar and result in a sweeter taste and softer texture, producing more dark spots on the banana peel. Some may regard the dark spots to be “tumour necrosis factor” that possesses anticancer property. Nevertheless, bananas with dark spots on peel do not contain the so-called “tumour necrosis factor”.

In fact, the bananas turn brown due to the natural browning process, called enzymatic browning, due to ethylene gas that is generated from bananas throughout the ripening process. The right way of choosing bananas is by watching out for the quality of the bananas and avoiding those with bruises but look for those that are firm and bright in colour.
