The outer skin is yellow to golden-brown in color, and has a wrinkled, rough and leathery texture. The inner flesh is a pale white-green and is soft but toothsome, reminiscent of the young cucumber. Old cucumbers have a mild, slightly grassy flavor but may have some bitterness around the seeds and outer flesh. Each fruit contains numerous fibrous white seeds, which should be removed before consumption.
