Rich in beneficial phytochemicals, rosemary improved cognitive function, helps regulate liver function and lowers the risk of asthma. It is also a good source of B vitamins and manganese. B vitamins benefit the nervous system, while manganese is essential for metabilic health, enabling the formation of scar tissue for healing wounds.
Rosemary contains rosmarinic and carnosic acids with anti-bacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal properties. Carnosic acid is thought to lower the risk of tumour development and slow the cancer growth.
Classically served with roast dishes, the leaves may also be boiled to make tea, or a sprig may be added to lemonade for a very refreshing effect. Both fresh and dried forms of the herb are to enhance a variety of dishes.
