The Fuji apple is a hybrid apple developed in the 1930’s in Aomori, Japan and has become very popular due to its crunchiness and sweet flavour. Usually the sugars are 9-11% of weight making it sweeter than many other cultivars.
Organic Fuji apples are packed with antioxidants including vitamin C known to boost the immune system, increase collagen production, and protect the body against environmental damage. These are organic apples, so get the most out of apples, wash and eat the skin as this contains 50% of the beneficial fibre and most of the polyphenols.
The fibre is beneficial for digestion, the gut microbiome and the cardiovascular system and this and the antioxidant quercetin may help reduce insulin resistance which is a pre-curser to diabetes type-2. Another polyphenol, Phloridzin seems also to reduce postprandial hyperglycemia in diabetes and related disorders.
