Highlights: Organic Red Capsicums are a variety of Capsicum annuum, also known as sweet or bell peppers and are the only variety that contains virtually no spicy capsaicin.
They are an excellent source of beta-carotene and vitamin C with half a cup raw red capsicum offering 47% RDA and vitamin C 159% RDA. They are also a good source of dietary fibre, vitamins B2, B3, B6, folate (B9), E and K and contain the minerals calcium, iron, potassium and magnesium.
The Capsicum genus belongs to the flowering plants of the nightshade family along with chillies, eggplants, potatoes and tomatoes. Native to Central and S. America, they are now enjoyed in dishes worldwide including quiches, pizza, paellas, stuffed peppers, sauces, stir-fries and salads.
Organic Red Capsicum packs the most nutrition, because they’ve been on the vine longest with x11 more beta-carotene and x1.5 more vitamin C than green peppers which are harvested before they start to turn yellow, orange, then red.
